No, Ketchup is legal, therefor it is not abuse. Marijuana is dangerous because the television said so. Watch reefer madness and you will know how dangerous marijuana is.
*Sarcasm*
I use and eat ketchup. I abuse ketchup.
Use = abuse, mainly because marijuana is illegal. Sharing a controlled prescription medication with someone it wasn’t prescribed for is also illegal and is considered prescription drug “abuse.” It is really not helpful to compare the relative risks of alcohol, marijuana, and prescription drugs, justifying one because the other is legal (unless you’re under a certain age and other qualifiers)—in any case, that is a policy issue, not a research one. NIDA is concerned with the latter.
So, Marijuana USE = ABUSE? But I suppose SSRI addiction and permanent damage to metabolic pathways is not abuse? You don’t have to be a neuroscientist to see the hypocrisy in that. There is no risk from marijuana use that isn’t paralleled and considered an acceptable risk with alcohol. Recreational marijuana use has its place in society.
Marijauan also had many medical uses, but its bad
Taken too far.
haha
Yes I understand that, I was just irritated and that’s how it came out. I just don’t believe you should be making a big deal out of marijuana. In my opinion, it should not even be the subject of a downgrading video considering more people have died directly from something as common as alcohol, and even caffeine. Yet no one has died directly from marijuana. That’s about all I have to say, unless there is something else you would like to point out?
And by “ingredient” we were referring to the more generic, primary definition of ingredient — “a component of a compound or mixture” — rather than the more specific (though, admittedly more common) sub-definition of “an item in a recipe.” Thanks for your comment.
Thank you for your interest in Dr. Frascella, who appears in the video. He received his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology and Neuroscience from Brown University and currently serves as the Director of the Division of Clinical Neuroscience and Behavioral Research at NIDA.
You make a good point about the dangers of alcohol, but please note that NIDA is a research institution and does not set policy or make laws.
To answer your question about withdrawal, long-term marijuana abusers trying to quit report withdrawal symptoms such as irritability, sleeplessness, decreased appetite, anxiety, and drug craving, all of which can make it difficult to stop using. These symptoms begin within about 1 day following abstinence, peak at 2-3 days, and subside within 1 or 2 weeks.
I see. Addiction makes sense, but what are the withdrawals? I mean I can something such as increased anxiety or something along those lines because of marijuana’s effects and possibly someone becoming dependent? But the main thing I am saying is alcohol is just as or as I see it, more dangerous, looking at the health issues, and direct deaths. Considering there are 0 direct deaths linked to marijuana but many directly linked to alcohol. Why have something less dangerous illegal?
i’m curious as to where this “doctor” was accredited…and for the record, THC isn’t an ingredient in marijuana, its a compound…this isn’t cooking
A recent analysis of multiple DUI studies (i.e., a meta-analysis) affirms that marijuana use is associated with an increased risk of motor vehicle crashes — especially fatal ones. To your other point — long-term marijuana use can be physically addictive. About 1 in 6 people who start using marijuana in their teens eventually become addicted. Among daily users, the number increases to 25-50 percent.
You make a good point, there are many serious risks to abusing alcohol — a greater chance of certain cancers, stroke, and liver disease; impaired brain function and motor skills; and the possibility of becoming addicted. It is the impaired brain function and motor skills that make driving under the influence of alcohol so dangerous. But, drugged driving can be just as dangerous as drunk driving.
Another medication, Sativex, contains THC and cannabidiol derived from cannabis plants. Sativex is delivered by a mouth spray. It is approved for use in Canada and the UK, and is currently undergoing FDA testing in the U.S. New medications that affect the cannabinoid system (where THC and other cannabinoids act) are being developed, but by no means is THC in “basically every other drug.”
you are right that THC is in medicine, but it’s not smoked as medicine. For example, Marinol is an FDA-approved medication made from synthetic (man-made) THC that is used to relieve nausea and vomiting in cancer patients and to help reverse severe weight loss in patients with AIDS. It is delivered in pill form.
i think BroStoner was referring to “only” smoking Marijuana, because there have been no recorded deaths from “only” smoking marijuana but it youre right about the impaired driving deaths
This is so dumb. Alcohol holds these same risks. And honestly, probably worse ones. No one has died from marijuana OD. But there have been many from alcohol. Alcohol holds worse physical addictions than marijuana. Marijuana doesn’t even have physical addiction or withdrawal. When you’re drunk you make stupid decisions. When you drive drunk it’s dangerous too. But at least while high you are cautious and not all over the road. I feel marijuana should be legal, if an even dangerous substance is.
….thc is also in medecine and basically every other drug. You do understand that, right? Or are you too busy angry at Marijuana even thought the reason it is illegal is because in the early 1900′s, cotton farmers got mad at hemp farmers because they were too good competition. Get your facts straight. P.S You got schooled by a 15 y/o
Not quite true – because marijuana impairs judgment and motor coordination and slows reaction time, someone driving high has a greater likelihood of being responsible for an auto accident. In fact, a recent survey found that 6.8 percent of drivers who were involved in accidents tested positive for THC. Marijuana is the most common illegal drug found in drivers who die in accidents (14 percent), sometimes in combination with alcohol or other drugs.
How many teenagers have died from smoking marijuana?….oh that’s right, none.
Risky Sexual Behavior? “o Honey.. where did you put that joint..?”
Marijuana itself is an unlikely medication candidate because the unpurified plant contains numerous chemicals with unknown health effects. The research continues. FDA-approved medications containing some of marijuana’s active ingredients are currently available, and scientists are actively engaged in the pursuit of a new generation of safe and effective medications.
First of all, the past 3 presidents of the United States have all admitted to smoking the reefer, so you can’t say that it causes you to lose motivation. Some stupid people smoke weed, yes, but not everyone that smokes weed is stupid. Just like some stupid people drink alcohol and abuse it, but not everyone that drinks is a crazy alcoholic now right? Toke responsibly.
i completely agree i think people are too stupid to realize that they are being tricked by greedy people the only reason pot isn’t legal is because people are more worried about money than the quality of they’re own life
you are stupid if you belive pot has any neggative side effects
@ I believe that many people have harmed others either via stealing or killing over this drug. In addition, everyone knows the drug cartels kill people over money and drugs. so yes, people do die as a result of using this stuff. either directly or indirectly, you cannot legitimately argue that people do not die over this stuff.
People who think this is a safe drug are high…
You probably think that people don’t die because of alcohol use / abuse either.

Tell me how many people have died from cannabis,, wow WATCH, “The Union” The business behind getting high. Its at your local Blockbuster Watch it then make another video…. Please so you can get the other half of the story….
I agree. All people I know that smoke pot, lose their motivation to achieve. It robs people’s potential.
BULLSHIT MARIJUANA IS LESS ADDICTIVE THAN COFFEE!
Each and every time I believe I know wherever it’s at, these people shift this.
This will
