Well, yes and no. Marijuana or ‘”Hemp”, is illegal because in the early 90′s it was discovered that hemp could serve as a suitable alternative to paper. When the corporate fat cats who owned these companies caught on to this, they turned to the government. The Reagan administration did several studies on marijuana only to discover that it had little to no side effects or downsides to it. But they decided to ignore these studies, and release their own studies that THEY published anyways.
Reason why it is illegal: Because the government can’t make money off it.

You really just said that? I don’t think I’ve ever facepalmed this hard before. Just because it would be legal, does NOT mean a lot of people would do it. If someone wants to do it, regardless of laws, they’re gonna do it, and it’s stupid that we’re wasting time and money trying to lock people up for owning a drug. I’m not a fan of hard drugs, but having a prohibition on them isn’t helping at all.
