Question by ace: What are the legalities of transporting marijuana and/or cannabis seeds as a medical marijuana patient?
I am visiting San Diego and am a medical marijuana patient in the state of Maine. I am considering becoming a caregiver and growing my own medicine. What are the legalities of bringing either some medicine back from SD (flying) to Maine be it either medicine itself or cannabis seeds?

Completely, totally, 100% illegal. You cannot carry marijuana across state borders under any circumstances, and you certainly can’t fly across country with weed.

  1. Top Cat says:

Medical marijuana is not really legal. What you propose violates federal law as well as the law of every state in between Maine and California.

  2. Jay says:

Federal law prohibits the transport of marijuana (medical use is not recognized by federal law). Therefore, crossing state lines (or flying) would be a federal crime. Depending on how you bring, it could be very serious.

  3. Mutt says:

Very, very illegal. Once you leave the state with it, it is a federal crime (it still is a federal crime even in the state, but they don’t go after you as much).

  4. Benj says:

    THIS IS INCREDIBLY LEGAL…

    …NOT

  5. All About Los Angeles says:

you can transport it as long as you have papers showing that it’s prescribed (ex:the bottle it came it and your id)

  6. General Hydroponics says:

Its legal in 17 states. They are Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, DC, Delaware(the latest one), Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.

You can carry across these states but with you cannot carry in some other part or other country for that matter.
